Civil Defence Course @ SCDF’s 3rd Division Headquarters
LCP (NPCC) Wang Pu
Instead of textbooks and classrooms, we spent the day with SCDF learning
real-life emergency skills—leadership, teamwork, and resilience in action.
The day began with a safety briefing, reminding us that in any crisis, staying
calm and following procedures is key. This set the tone for everything that
followed. Next came first aid training. We learned CPR using mannequins,
practiced bandaging wounds, and even tried the recovery position. What
once seemed like textbook knowledge became hands-on skills we could
really use.
The highlight, however, was fire-fighting practice. After learning the “fire
triangle,” we took turns using extinguishers to put out real flames. The
roar of fire was scary at first, but applying the PASS method—Pull, Aim,
Squeeze, Sweep—gave us the confidence to handle it. The cheers and
teamwork made the experience both thrilling and memorable.
Beyond the skills, the course also built camaraderie. Working alongside
cadets from different schools from NPCC Area 11, we encouraged each
other, shared laughs, and formed friendships through shared challenges.
By the end of the day, we weren’t just students - we were cadets ready
to serve. The Civil Defence Course showed us that NPCC is more than
just campcraft and drills; it’s a CCA that teaches life-saving skills, builds
confidence, and strengthens bonds.
3D2N Adventure Training Camp (ATC) @ Pulau Ubin
LCP Tan Zheng Yu
The Adventure Training Camp (ATC) is an exciting event where NPCC
cadets from different schools in Area 11 - such as Yio Chu Kang Secondary,
Anderson Secondary, Deyi Secondary, Mayflower Secondary, Presbyterian
High, and St. Nicholas - come together for a memorable camping
experience.
One of the first activities we tried was learning how to pitch a tent.
Although many of us struggled at first, we worked together and eventually
managed to get it standing. We also enjoyed outdoor cooking, where we
had the chance to bond, share stories, and get to know one another better.
Of course, the camp wasn’t without challenges. We had to complete a
7km hike around Pulau Ubin under the scorching hot sun. Abseiling was
one of the scariest activities, as many of us were nervous about stepping
off from such a height. However, with encouragement and teamwork, we
persevered and made it down safely.
The camp ended on a high note with the much-anticipated campfire
night. Under the starry sky, cadets from different schools came together
to perform skits, dances, and campfire songs. The lively atmosphere was
filled with cheers, laughter, and the warmth of friendship. It was the
perfect way to celebrate our shared experiences - ending the camp not
just with performances, but with memories that will last a lifetime.
Overall, ATC was not only challenging but also a fun and meaningful
experience. It helped us build friendships, develop resilience, and adapt
better to nature and the outdoor environment.
