Our Motto: “Semper Superne Nitens” – Ever Striving Upward
The Ang Mo Kio Secondary School Choir, a dynamic and versatile ensemble performing in SAB and sometimes SATB formations, proudly carries our school’s motto in every note we sing. Under the passionate direction of our accomplished vocalist-conductor, Ms. Cherie Chai and pianist-cum-co- conductor, Ms. Natalie Ng, we are more than just performers — we are a family united by our love for music, dedication to growth, and commitment to uplifting our school community. Through every rehearsal, performance and school exchange, the choir nurtures not just vocal talent but also the personal growth, character, and leadership potential of each chorister. We embrace every opportunity to showcase our voices — not only to develop our own skills, but to inspire others and share the joy of music.
This year, we boldly stepped onto both national and international stages, taking on the challenge of the Singapore Youth Festival (Arts Presentation) 2025 and the Singapore International Choral Festival (SICF) 2025. These demanding platforms pushed us to new heights, and we rose to the occasion, both times, with spirit and unity. The SICF 2025 brought our choristers up close and personal with an internationally-acclaimed conductor, composer, and educator Michael Barrett who conducted a Masterclass Clinic just for us. A four-time South African Music Awards (SAMA) nominee, Michael has conducted All State Choirs in Texas (2024), Missouri (2022), and will debut at Carnegie Hall in 2026.
Beyond competitions, we actively contributed to the heartbeat of our school — performing at key events like Awards Day and Teachers’ Day, and leading spirited mass singalongs during Chinese New Year and National Day celebrations. In a particularly heartfelt moment, members of our Choir Executive Committee volunteered to deliver a touching a cappella tribute to teachers — a performance that moved both hearts and spirits. True to our motto, we continue to strive upward — in harmony, in character, and in purpose. And with each performance, we look forward to reaching even greater heights together.
